Dining at the The Alex

Riingo - This handsome, two-level restaurant serves innovative American-Japanese cuisine. (“Riingo” is derived from the Japanese word for apple.) Menu highlights include Whole Snapper with Red Miso Broth, Seared Char with Herb Coconut Milk, and, for dessert, Donuts with Green Tea Kulfi (Indian ice cream).

The main level includes a curved-front lounge—where the signature drink is the Red Apple Martini—a 40-seat dining room, and a sushi bar. A semi-private “bento booth” is appointed with ebony wood and kimono-inspired fabrics. A Carrara marble stairway leads to a mezzanine with a community table overlooking the main dining room and more intimate booths overlooking the lounge.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily; brunch on weekends.

Manhattan north of 8th St is laid out in a grid. Avenues run north and south, while streets run east and west (crosstown). Twenty blocks going north and south or 10 going crosstown equal approximately one mile.

Walking is a popular option for sightseeing, window-shopping, and experiencing the flavor of New York City. Taxis are relatively easy to hail, except during rush hour or inclement weather. Visitors should use yellow cabs only. The cab is available only if the center panel of its roof sign is lit. Subways and buses are efficient and inexpensive (less than $5). MetroCards for subways and buses can be purchased in subway stations and from designated merchants. The most convenient subway access is at Grand Central Terminal, four short blocks away from The Alex. Because of expensive and limited parking, as well as challenging traffic conditions, rental cars are generally not recommended.
