Getting around: Walking is a popular option for experiencing the flavor of the city. Taxis are relatively easy to hail, except during rush hour or inclement weather. Subways and buses are efficient and inexpensive (less than $5). MetroCards for subways and buses can be purchased in subway stations and from designated merchants.

Getting there: The quickest and most convenient way to get to and from the airport is by taxi ($26-$35 from LaGuardia; more than $36 from JFK and Newark). Shuttle vans from all airports are economical alternatives (about $20), as is express bus (about $15). Other options include AirTrain from both Newark and JFK ($5 for JFK, $12 for Newark), which delivers travelers from their respective terminals to the nearest subway (additional $2).
